It is important to consider individual circumstances and needs for people with disabilities and their families to effectively prepare for emergencies and disasters.

Senior Citizens
A growing body of evidence reveals that older adults are disproportionately impacted during disasters. Our senior population must discuss their needs with their trusted support network before a disaster occurs.

During Major Disaster Declarations signed by President Joe Biden, residents in Wilson County may be eligible to apply for FEMA Individual Assistance.
Assistance could include:
- Temporary housing such as rental assistance or reimbursement for hotel costs.
- Grants for the repair or replacement of a homeowner’s primary residence.
- Repairing storm-damaged privately-owned access routes (driveways, roads, or bridges)
Also, other uninsured or under-insured disaster-related expenses such as:
- Repair or replacement of personal property.
- Moving and storage fees.
- Childcare, medical and dental expenses, and certain funeral costs.
